Best Raj & Howard Moments: 10 Scenes That Made Them the Show’s Best Bromance

Every sitcom has a friendship that carries the show between the romances. In The Big Bang Theory, it was the engineer and the astrophysicist — two men who started out chasing women together and ended up as family. Raj and Howard moments run all 12 seasons: failed dates, a dog, a godfather, a bounce-house fight, and an airport goodbye that lands harder than most of the show’s weddings.

Here are 10 Raj and Howard moments, in story order, that made them the show’s best bromance.

Best Raj and Howard Moments in Story Order

1. The Goth Club — “The Gothowitz Deviation” (Season 3, Episode 3):

Raj and Howard head to a goth club dressed in black, heavy eyeliner and fake tattoo sleeves, convinced a new look will finally get them girls. It does not. But the scene is the purest early Raj and Howard there is: two guys with no game at all, failing together, and somehow having more fun failing than they ever would succeeding. They were always better as a double act than as two single men.

2. Howard Coaches Raj’s Date — “The Wiggly Finger Catalyst” (Season 5, Episode 4):

When Raj finally gets a date with Emily, Howard steps in as coach, wingman and chief strategist — the self-styled ladies’ man guiding the friend who, for years, could not speak to a woman without a drink in him. The coaching is useless, obviously. Howard’s advice was never the point. The point is that Raj’s dating life was always a team project, and Howard treated it like one.

3. The Bachelor Party Toast — “The Stag Convergence” (Season 5, Episode 22):

At Howard’s bachelor party, the stories get crude — Raj gets drunk and starts spilling Howard’s sexual history, and the whole thing ends up filmed and posted online. Then Raj stands up and gives a toast that stops the room: sincere, unguarded, and completely about how much Howard means to him. It is the first time the show lets Raj say the thing out loud, and it reframes the whole friendship. The jokes were the surface. This was underneath.

4. Cinnamon the Dog (Season 6):

Howard gets Raj a dog — Cinnamon, a Yorkshire terrier — because his best friend is lonely and Howard cannot stand watching it. It is the most Raj-and-Howard gift in the series: practical, slightly weird, and entirely about not letting Raj be alone in that apartment. Raj adores her instantly. Twelve seasons in, Cinnamon is still there, and so is the reason she arrived.

5. Raj Checks on Mrs. Wolowitz — “The Spoiler Alert Segmentation” (Season 6, Episode 15):

After Mrs. Wolowitz goes through a breakup, the person who checks on her is Raj. Not because anyone asked him to, but because she is family to him too — he has spent years in that house, eating her food, listening to her shout through the walls. Howard’s mother was Raj’s mother too, in the way that matters. He looks after her the way you look after your best friend’s mum: without being asked, and without making a fuss about it.

6. The Estrogen Ointment — “The Deception Verification” (Season 7, Episode 18):

Howard accidentally absorbs his mother’s estrogen-heavy ointment and starts feeling insecure, emotional and exposed — and the person he turns to is Raj. The storyline is played for laughs, but the friendship beat is real: Howard lets exactly one person see him like that, and Raj reassures him without making it a joke. For two men who communicate mostly in insults, it is a rare moment of being genuinely gentle with each other.

7. The Space Probe — “The Space Probe Disintegration” (Season 8, Episode 19):

Raj spirals over a space probe he once worked on, waiting for news that may be bad, and Howard simply hangs out with him — stressed, patient, going nowhere. No advice, no fix, no punchline. Just sitting with a friend while he worries. It is the least funny of the Raj and Howard moments on this list, and maybe the truest one: friendship as company, not solutions.

8. Halley’s Godfather — “The Birthday Synchronicity” (Season 10, Episode 11):

Raj becomes Halley’s godfather, and on the night Bernadette goes into labour, he is the one driving Howard, Bernadette and Stuart to the hospital — Howard panicking in the back seat, telling Bernadette he loves her, Raj calmly getting everyone there in one piece. The joke the show never quite says out loud is that Raj was already family long before anyone made it official. The godfather title just caught up with the truth.

9. The Bounce House Fight — “The Celebration Reverberation” (Season 11, Episode 11):

At Halley’s birthday party, Raj and Howard end up fighting in a bounce house — two grown men, bouncing, shouting, and then making up like nothing happened. It is the show’s most honest beat about their codependency: they fight like brothers because they are that close, and the fight matters less than the fact that neither of them ever actually leaves. Twelve seasons of needing each other, in one inflatable room.

10. The Airport Goodbye — “The Maternal Conclusion” (Season 12, Episode 22):

Raj is about to fly to London to propose to Anu, and Howard — talked into it by Bernadette — races to the airport to stop him. Not to keep him, exactly, but to ask him the one question that matters: do you really want to go, or do you want to stay with the people who love you? It is the finale-era payoff to everything on this list. The bromance that started with two guys failing to pick up girls in a goth club ends with one of them running through an airport because he cannot imagine his life without the other.

Raj and Howard never got the wedding or the Nobel speech. They got something quieter: a friendship that survived marriage, kids, space flight, and twelve seasons of the show trying to pull them apart. That is why their scenes still land — they were never about the joke. They were about two people who chose each other, over and over, and meant it. These Raj and Howard moments are the show’s best bromance because the friendship never needed a big event to matter — it mattered in the small scenes, the drives, the check-ins and the goodbyes.
